Patricia Sophie Mayer is student assistant at the Department of Religious Studies. She holds a B.A. in Japanese Studies (2017). In the autumn 2017, she entered the M.A. programmes in Religious Studies and Japanese Studies, while also being a freelancer at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2017–2018). Her main interests lie in religion in Japan and East Asia, Christianity, and film. She combined the aforementioned interests in her B.A. thesis—a comparative analysis of two film adaptations of Endō Shūsaku's novel Silence (Chinmoku 沈黙), which deals with the persecution of Christians in medieval Japan.
