Zsuzsanna Szugyiczki is a researcher at the Department of Religious Studies at University of Szeged (Hungary) where she obtained her M.A. in 2017. Presently, she is in the process of defending her dissertation entitled Mysticism Beyond Time: A Comparative Study of Traditional vs. Modern Mysticism, at the Doctoral School of Philosophy at University of Szeged. She teaches courses on Medieval Religious History, Contemporary Theories of Religious Studies and Philosophy of Religion. In her research, she focuses on medieval mysticism as well as the works of John of the Cross and Thomas Merton. In particular, she explores the idea of the democratisation of mysticism and contemporary examples of mystical experiences. Besides her academic duties, she is an instructor at the "Let's Teach for Hungary!" programme. She trains and mentors university students who work with primary school pupils coming from small towns. While at the Department of Religious Studies in the 2023 spring semester, she co-ordinates a course on "Introduction to the Study of Mysticism."
