Jan Ole Bangen is a doctoral fellow at the Excellence Cluster Topoi and the Institute for Religious Studies at the Free University of Berlin. He studied Religious Studies and Sociology in Hamburg and Berlin and received his M.A. in 2015. Within the Topoi research group "Personal Authorization of Knowledge," he works on a doctoral thesis exploring the transfer and transformation of terms in and between authority research in ancient studies and sociology. Other research interests include religious developments in contemporary society, especially in the field of alternative spirituality, as well as methods and theory in the Sociology of Religion and Sociology of Knowledge. While at the Department in the 2018 summer semester, he co-ordinates a course on "Introduction to the Sociology of Religion."
