Gino Bekos was a uni:docs Fellow in Religious Studies (2015–2018). He holds an M.A. in Religious Studies (2014) and both a B.A. (2009) and an M.A. (2012) in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Vienna. His research interests include Islamic religious thought, Sufism, new religious movements, and esoteric discourses. His doctoral research project focuses on the reception of Islamic mysticism and Sufism in western societies. Over the past years, he conducted extensive field research on Sufi saints in India and on the missionary activities of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Austria. Born and bred in Berlin, he is living in Vienna since more than a decade; a great place for someone who has an affection for opera and classical music.
