Csaba Szabó is an assistant lecturer at the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Szeged (Hungary). He holds an M.A. in Roman Provincial Archaeology and Classics (2012) from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and Ancient History (2017) from the Max Weber Kolleg, University of Erfurt and the University of Pécs, Hungary (Cotutelle de thèse). His research interest includes Roman provincial archaeology, Roman religion in the second to third centuries in the Danubian provinces, and the reception of classical antiquity in Romania. He was teaching as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Archaeology, University of Pécs (2017–2018), the Department of Catholic Theology, Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (2017), and was an assistant lecturer of the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu from 2018 to 2021. He is the author of eight books including Sanctuaries in Roman Dacia: Materiality and Religious Experience (Archaeopress 2018) and Roman Religion in the Danubian Provinces: Space Sacralisation and Religious Communication during the Principate (1st-3rd century AD) (Oxbow Books 2022). While at the Department in the 2022 summer and winter semesters, Dr Szabó co-ordinates courses on "Ancient Mystery Religions in Dialogue with Early Christianity" and "Roman Religion in the Danubian Provinces."
