Christian Lührsen is a doctoral fellow at the Department of Religious Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. He studied Religious Studies, Prehistoric and Near Eastern Archaeology, Anthropology, and Ancient History at Freie Universität Berlin and Università degli Studi di Siena, obtaining his M.A. in Religious Studies in 2016 with a dissertation on Arnold Gehlen's philosophical anthropology. Since 2017 he is committed to his doctoral research exploring the value judgments vis-à-vis and the theoretical significance of the notion of asceticism in the sociology of Max Weber. His scholarly interests moreover comprise the history of religions, science, and philosophy in nineteenth-century Europe, theories of sociology of religion and knowledge, and the relationships between religion and politics as well as religion and philosophy. While at the Department in the winter semester 2019/20, he co-ordinates a course on "Introduction to the Sociology of Religion."
