Tibor Porció is Assistant Professor in Religious Studies at the Department for the Study of Religions at the University of Szeged (Hungary). He holds an M.A. in Altaic Studies (1992) from the University of Szeged and a Ph.D. in Tibetan and Buddhist Studies (2001) from the University of Vienna. His research interest includes philology, the history of Buddhism in Central Asia, as well as religious and cultural interactions between Turkic and Tibetan peoples. From 2005 to 2016, he acted as co-ordinator of the CEEPUS (Central European Programme for University Studies) "Study of Religions" network. He regularly delivers courses, among others, on philology, Uygur Buddhism, and Buddhism in Tibet. As a visiting scholar he has previously taught at universities in Vienna, Bratislava, Cardiff, Kraków, Prague, and Brno. While at the Department in the 2020 winter semester, Professor Porció co-ordinates a course on "Buddhism in Central Asia."
